Meant to capture the feeling of not falling asleep due to a wandering, racing mind.
The background is built from about 35 layers of very thin, transparent acrylic paint. This is meant to show the background blur of unintelligible thoughts.
The foreground in oil shows a reference to De Stijl paintings. The normally perfect straight lines and solid colors are represented incomplete, wrong, and imperfect, much like the ideas of the restless mind. The Restless Mind is written in faded oil in the corner to give context and to further represent the incompleteness of thoughts in the state. Other colors shoot across the canvas to show the speed of thoughts going in and out.
