Breathe Free

Mixed media – acrylic, stucco, spray paint

The piece is meant as a protest to the continued dehumanization and cruelty to immigrants and asylum seekers. Regardless of your views on immigration, people deserve to be treated as people, not solely as a means to a political end. The yellow and red are the color of caution and danger tape to represent the fear many have of the immigrant communities.

The wall in the background was made using acrylic extender with acrylic paint for the blocks and stucco for the mortar. I experimented with using water balloons filled with paint as a quick method for applying a base coat for use in Street art. Handmade stencils were used for the statue and text. Red and yellow were spray painted by hand.
